This week I commented on my nieces beautiful hair and she looked at me and said "Aunty Betsy, I remember once years and years ago you said that I had very beautiful long thick eyelashes. I even remember we were standing in your kitchen". I was so relieved! I had cringed at '...when you said..." wondering what on earth was coming next but THANKFULLY I had built this child up instead of tearing her down. It is so important for children to be encouraged and it is scriptural to do so. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says... Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. I know there are times my words are not so well delivered and are too sharp. This verse and my moment with Evie are a great reminder to me that words matter and I have a responsibility to use them well. Obviously it goes far beyond eyelashes and hair and is about heart and actions but you get the picture! We must speak life into our kids. Into EVERY kid. Not lies. Not destruction. Not anger. Not bitterness. An adult can completely change the course of a child's life with words and actions and God wants us to do just that! Check out the clip attached for an amazing story that shows a time this happened!
